Values

Our core values
What makes a story great? The best stories are the ones where the hero sacrifices himself for the sake of someone else. A great story is never about the hero simply achieving some selfish desire. No one wants to see that story. No one is rooting for that hero. If someone made a movie about your life, would people walk out inspired or bored? What if our lives were meant to be about something more? Here at STORYCHURCH, we believe that we were meant to tell great stories with our lives. We hope to inspire you to embrace the Story that you were meant to live – a story of love and grace, hope and beauty, justice and forgiveness. When you and I embrace that story, our own lives begin to make sense in new ways.
As a community, we believe that when we embrace the story we were meant to live, certain things become true of us. The following are some of the life-giving core values that we believe are part of this story:
Generosity
Our desire is to be a life-giving church. We want to be the most generous church we can possibly be. We believe that when followers of Jesus gather together, no one around them has any needs. Whether or not a person ever comes to one of our services, our goal is that they would be glad that we are here. We believe the neighborhoods we live in, the community our church meets in, all of them should be better off because followers of Jesus are there.
Authenticity
We value authenticity because we long for real relationships. We never want to pretend we have it all together. We don’t want to have to hide our own doubts, our struggles, or our failures. We long to create an environment where people who are seeking out God can feel completely free to come exactly as they are.
Creativity
We serve a creative God. The Bible says we were made in His image. For us at STORYCHURCH we want to reflect the creativity and beauty of God in all we do. We strive to do everything with excellence and creativity – from our corporate worship to our kids ministries. We want to be a place that encourages the arts and embraces the creativity of God’s people.
Diversity
Durham is a diverse place with diverse cultures. Heaven will be a place of great diversity as people from every tribe, nation, and tongue come together to worship Jesus. Our desire is that our church would reflect both our culture and the heart of God by embracing people of every ethnicity.
