STORYCHURCH is a Durham church that started in 2010. Our goal is to help people embrace the story they were meant to live.
We like to think of ourselves as a church for people that don’t go to church. We understand that for many people church is just weird. You may be one of those people. Maybe you had a bad experience, or maybe you gave up on it after your childhood, or maybe you just grew tired of words that felt empty.
No matter what your background, we think you will feel welcomed and fit right in at STORYCHURCH. Check out this message from Pastor Jeremy Copeland.
The church is not a building — it’s people. We believe at STORYCHURCH you will find some of the friendliest people around. When you come to visit us, be sure to also say hello to someone on our team! We would really love to meet you.
The STORYCHURCH leadership team is led by Lead Pastor, Jeremy Copeland and his wife, Kimi Copeland. Jeremy and Kimi moved to Durham, NC from California in August, 2008.
You’ll find our check-in area clearly marked when you first walk into our facility. After you grab a bagel and some coffee, you can check your kids in to STORYKIDS. STORYKIDS is for children from infants to 5th grade.
STORYKIDS is a safe, secure place for you to leave your kids. We understand that this is the biggest concern for any parent and so we do everything we can to make sure your kids are protected. Our check in is secure and our kids ministry staff have all had extensive background checks. We will always have at least two adults in every class. As a parent, you are welcome to stay with your child for any or all of their class.
Our goal for STORYKIDS is to create an environment that will help your child to grow in a relationship with Jesus in an age appropriate manner. They will sing songs, learn stories, play with other children, and even find time to do some art work. We will do our best to learn your child’s name and to help him or her to find some friends.
To help people embrace the story they are meant to live.
At STORYCHURCH we believe in a God who is intimately involved in our lives. He’s a God who has been telling a story of love, of hope, and of grace from the beginning of time until now.
The story begins with the statement “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” It ends with the phrase “Behold, I make all things new.” This is the story of God and it begins and ends with creation. The very act of creation is a statement of love. God created us and everything we see in order that He could have a relationship with us. It’s a story of a relationship that becomes broken, and is ultimately restored through the person of Jesus Christ. And it’s a story that continues to be written every day by followers of Jesus who seek the restoration of all things.
My place in the Story
We all have a story. Each one is unique. Most of us want our lives to matter. We want our stories to be the kind of stories worth telling. At STORYCHURCH, we’ve come to recognize that the only story that’s really worth telling is a story about a life laid down for the sake of another. It’s the single mom who works two jobs and still finds time to play with her kids. It’s the family that gives up their vacation in order to go serve AIDS orphans in Africa. It’s the husband who fights for his marriage and refuses to let it fail. Or the student who befriends the loner no matter the cost to his own social status.
When you embrace the Story of Jesus, you become a Storyteller. Your life, your decisions, and everything that you do becomes a message to those around you about the hope and love and grace of Jesus. At STORYCHURCH, we take this very seriously. We want our lives and our actions to be consistent with the same Story that Jesus told – as He laid down His life for us.
As Christians, we take seriously Jesus’s concern for the poor, the outcast, the marginalized, and the oppressed. As His followers, we stand for Justice, for Hope, and for Mercy. We partner with Him in the restoration and reconciliation of the world.
We understand that checking out a church for the first time can be intimidating and maybe even overwhelming. We think you will enjoy your time with us. We will never single you out as a visitor or make you uncomfortable. We’ve got a welcome table where you can get all your questions answered, and hot coffee and bagels waiting for you as well.
During the service, you will be encouraged to participate in worship through singing as we are led by a live band. We will try to encourage and challenge you with a practical message and give you opportunity to go further in your relationship with God.
Our services last for a maximum of 75 minutes. We will take great care of your kids and give them an experience that they will enjoy as well.
As a visitor, we’ll ask you to fill out a Connection Card during the service. You can expect a gift from us and a follow up email, that’s it. We promise that no one will show up at your door uninvited.
Jeremy and his wife Kimi moved to Durham in August of 2008 to plant STORYCHURCH. Jeremy and Kimi are high school sweethearts who have been married for thirteen years. They have two girls and a baby boy.
Jeremy graduated from Biola University and has been in full time ministry since 2000, starting out as a youth pastor in CA.
He’s a former college baseball pitcher and a fanatical baseball fan. In his free time he likes to play frolf, build things, read, and hang out with the family.
When it comes to getting connected at STORYCHURCH, Joel is the guy that helps people find their place. He oversees our volunteer teams as well as our Connection Groups and works one on one with many of our key leaders.
Joel first came to STORYCHURCH as a visitor, experienced some amazing life change, and has quickly become one of our most incredible leaders.
Alastair and his wife Elizabeth moved to Durham, NC from Northern Ireland in 2007. Alastair joined the team several months before we officially launched. A dad of three, Alastair spends his days doing real work that includes writing computer software.
Liz is Alastair’s better half and oversees STORYKIDS. Aside from being a mom and keeping Alastair in line, she has an incredible vision and passion for seeing kids embrace the story they were meant to live.

If you want to help us create environments that help people “embrace the story they were meant to live” then here’s what we ask you to do next:
And here’s the cool thing that we’ve learned – while serving is primarily about other people, it’s one of the best ways we’ve found to grow ourselves and to allow God to stretch us and teach us new things as well.
So you ready to give it a try?
How can you contribute?
Our goal at STORYCHURCH is to help people embrace the story they were meant to live. We believe in the power of generosity for what it does for the individual doing the giving as well as for the cause they are supporting. When you give, you are both embracing the story YOU were meant to live and at the same time helping others to do the same.
Online giving is a simple, fast, and secure way for you to give. More than half of those who give to STORYCHURCH do so online. And your giving is changing lives. Whether it’s clean water in Guatemala, or changed lives here in Durham – your giving makes it all possible.
If you need help with your finances, see our RESOURCES page for some ways you can begin to have victory in this part of your life.
